St.Louis Blues Offseason Recap

Coming off back-to-back years of disappointment in the playoffs, the St.Louis Blues needed to make a splash in the offseason and they have done just that. With large contract extensions, trades and exciting news for New Years Day, the Blues are headed in the right direction once again.

Outmatched

Coming off the Stanley Cup run, the Blues have suffered brutal playoff performances to the Vancouver Canucks and the Colorado Avalanche. Both series losses were to very good teams, but the Blues seemed heavily outmatched in both series. Speed kills in the NHL and that has been apparent the last two seasons against the Blues.

The Blues made a large splash this offseason by signing Colton Parayko to a 8-year, $52 million contract extension. After losing former Captain Alex Pietrangelo to the Vegas Golden Knights, they would not make the same mistake twice. The Blues now control Parayko for the next eight years and will be paying a hefty price to do so.

This was not the only contract extension the Blues made this offseason, most recently, the Blues extended General Manager Doug Armstrong for five more years.

The Winter Classic

The marquee game for the Blues this season is The Winter Classic on New Year’s Day in Minnesota. The Blue will take on the Wild at Target Field, the home of the Twins. The Blues have brought their vintage jerseys out for display and they look good.

The preseason has started and we are nine days away from the regular season. The Blues will travel to Colorado, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season, to start the 2021-22 campaign.

Following along for more Blues content throughout the season.
